The defining challenges of our century — climate, resources, resilience, equity — refuse to stay inside any single field. They can only be answered where disciplines meet. GSSCSR exists to build that meeting place, and to keep it standing for generations.
The world we face
There are no isolated crises — only one system under strain
Climate, resources, energy, resilience and equity are not a list of separate problems to be solved one at a time. They are pressure points on the same linear, extractive system — each one bound to the others.
Pull on any single thread and the rest move. That is precisely why no lone discipline can hold the answer, and why the response has to be built as a system too.

Why progress stalls
Expertise is abundant. Coordination is scarce.
Knowledge today is organised into deep but separate silos. A materials scientist, a supply-chain economist, a policymaker and a product designer may each hold part of the answer — yet rarely share a table, a language or a goal.
Conferences convene, journals publish and networks connect, but each does one thing. What has been missing is a society whose entire purpose is to hold these disciplines together over time.

Why circular systems matter
Close the loop, and the whole system changes
A circular approach designs waste out from the start — keeping materials, energy and value in use, and regenerating the systems they depend on. It is not a single technology but a way of thinking that reaches across production, consumption, policy and design.
Circular and sustainable systems are, therefore, the natural organising idea for an interdisciplinary society: they only work when many fields cooperate.
Why GSSCSR exists
Because the work is generational, and generational work needs a home.
Projects end. Grants close. Conferences pack up. But the transition to circular, sustainable systems will outlast every one of them. It needs an institution designed to endure — one that gathers the disciplines, holds a shared standard of evidence, and carries the purpose forward long after any single effort is done.
GSSCSR is being established to be that home: a credible, interdisciplinary society with education, research, industry, policy, community and sustainability at its core — not a conference, a journal or a single-theme network, but the place where all of them finally converge and stay.
